Micheal Collins - The Big Man Lives On

Like most Anglo-Irish families my kin had divided loyalties during Ireland's tumultuous history, they were either on one side or on the other, and it was a case of brother against brother, and so forth – as in more recent times - my grandfather was staunchly British and some of my relatives desired independence at any cost which ment bombs and mayhem the usual recipe of Irish Rebellion.

But there can be no greater Irishman than Micheal Collins, the truth is the Northern Irish State wouldn’t exist had Collins never made peace with England – and I suppose you can call this my eulogy for Micheal Collins... The enduring legacy of Michael Collins 102 years on.. The Big Man Lives On [Verse] Michael Collins fought so brave In the ambush he did fall August day took him away But his spirit stands tall [Verse 2] Civil War it tore the land Brother turned on brother's hand Dirty deeds in shadows done Yet the big man lives on [Chorus] Oh the big man lives on In the hearts of the free In the songs that we sing In the stories we weave [Verse 3] Freedom's torch he tried to light In the dark of Irish night Though he fell his dream survived His name will never die [Bridge] Memories of Michael's stand Echo through our troubled land Legends grow where heroes tread His legacy is not dead [Chorus] Oh the big man lives on In the hearts of the free In the songs that we sing In the stories we weave Music and Lyrics by Sam J.
